Crop Image to a Square (1:1)

Locked to 1:1, cropped in your browser.

A square crop locks width and height to the same length, a 1:1 ratio. It is the safe shape for profile pictures, avatars, and product thumbnails, because a square looks identical whether the grid around it is wide or tall. Drag the box to choose which part of the photo stays in frame. Nothing is uploaded.

The spec

Aspect ratio1:1
Best forProfile photos, avatars, product thumbnails, and any grid where every tile has to be the same shape.

The crop runs on a canvas in your browser. Your image never leaves your device, so this works offline and nothing is stored anywhere. The download is cut from the full resolution of your file, not the on-screen preview.

Questions people ask

What size is a 1:1 square crop?

1:1 means width and height are equal, so the pixel size is whatever square you export, for example 1080x1080 or 600x600. This tool reads the real pixels of your image, so a 4000px photo exports a 4000px square, not a shrunken preview.

Where are square images used?

Profile pictures on almost every platform, product tiles in an online shop, album covers, and the classic Instagram feed square. A square is predictable, so it sits cleanly in a grid where a portrait or landscape photo would crop unevenly.

Is my image uploaded?

No. The crop runs on a canvas in your browser, so the file never leaves your device. It works offline and nothing is stored on a server.
