Guru

Yesterday, Monday 19 April 2010, Rapper Keith Elam aka Guru (which stands for Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal) died of cancer. With his projects Jazzmatazz and Gang Starr he had an impact on the HipHop of the 90s and consequently also on me. He was one of my childhood idols.

This is an excerpt from his last letter:
“I, Guru, am writing this letter to my fans, friends and loved ones around the world. I have had a long battle with cancer and have succumbed to the disease. (…) I write this with tears in my eyes, not of sorrow but of joy for what a wonderful life I have enjoyed and how many great people I have had the pleasure of meeting.“
