Engagement Rate Calculator

What is your real engagement rate?

Engagement rate is (likes + comments) / followers x 100. Five hundred interactions on 10,000 followers is a 5 percent engagement rate. This calculator works out that rate from the numbers you type in. It is manual, needs no login, and nothing is saved. If you would rather measure against reach or views, the by-reach alternative divides total engagements by reach instead of followers.

How it is calculated

The standard formula, and the by-reach alternative:

  • Engagement rate = (likes + comments) / followers x 100
  • By reach = total engagements / reach x 100

Worked examples

Likes Comments Followers Engagement rate
400 100 10,000 5.00%
250 50 25,000 1.20%
1,200 300 50,000 3.00%

By platform

Benchmarks differ by network. Use the platform page for the right formula and the tier it lands in:

Questions people ask

What is a good engagement rate?

It depends on the platform and your audience size. As a rough 2025 guideline, 1 to 3 percent is average on Instagram, while TikTok often runs higher and YouTube is measured against views. Smaller accounts almost always show higher rates than large ones, so compare against accounts of a similar size rather than a single universal number.

How is engagement rate calculated?

Add the likes and comments on a post, divide by your follower count, and multiply by 100. So 500 interactions on 10,000 followers is 5 percent. Averaging several recent posts gives a more honest number than one viral post. Some marketers divide by reach or views instead, which this tool also supports on the platform pages.

Is any of my data saved?

No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser. You type the numbers in yourself and nothing is uploaded, stored, or sent anywhere.
